Eric Roston (48 articles)
Eric Roston is a journalist in Washington, DC, writing a narrative, nonfiction book about abyssal gaps in U.S. scientific literacy--and how they hold us back from tackling crises in energy and health.
Previously, Roston was a correspondent in TIME's Washington bureau, where he covered economics, politics and technology. Roston joined the magazine in 2000 as a business reporter in the New York bureau, covering stories such as the collapse of Enron, China's emergence as a force in global trade, and how advanced computing technologies are reshaping the economy. An eyewitness to the collapse of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, Roston was a part of the reporting team that won a National Magazine Award for best single-issue coverage.
In September 2002, Roston became a part of TIME's Washington bureau. He traveled extensively with President George W. Bush and Senators John Kerry and John Edwards during the 2004 election campaign, providing analysis and reporting to the magazine's seasoned political team. He was also a frequent contributor to the magazine's work on energy, environmental and health issues. He has penned a monthly column on technology and society for TIME Inside Business and a daily Web log on the high-tech sector for Time.com.
Roston has been a guest on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBC, National Public Radio and various radio stations nationwide and abroad. Prior to TIME, he wrote for LIFE magazine and contributed to Slate.com, where he wrote the "Today's Papers" column. Roston, who is fluent in Russian, holds an M.A. in Russian history, and a B.A. in modern European history, both from Columbia University. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife, Karen.

Jonathan Cohen (182 articles)
My name is Jonathan Cohen and I have a B.A. in Comparative Literature
from Binghamton University. Having just wrapped up a stint researching
emerging technology trends at a public relations firm, I am currently
in the process of applying to Communications graduate programs.
Ultimately, I plan on pursuing a doctorate and will subsequently teach
at a collegiate level as a vocation. I live in Brooklyn, NY.

I am passionate about
cultivating ideas in any arable environment. My technological interests
are varied, including digital media consumption, social networking
applications on the internet, human-computer interaction,
communications, and the nexus of cultural and technological
determinism. Above all, I'm compelled to analyze how computer
applications affect the heart rather then how they can augment the
brain.
My hobbies include screenwriting, electronic music
composition (FL Studio), taking in a movie or TV show, games, and
travelling. This past July I travelled 6,000 miles on USA roads with
college friends. Hopefully, before I start graduate school in the fall
of 2006 (that is, if I'm accepted where I apply), I'll have the means
to travel abroad as well.
I created Philoneist to fill a void
in tech and science news reporting that often relegates cultural
relevance someplace "after the jump" while concentrating on product
announcements and launches. I hope to provide an unbiased record of
scientific innovations that galvanize you to think about the extent to
which technology is impacting your world.
