Wikipedia Implements Contribution Restrictions

Filed in archive Web 2.0 by Jonathan G. Cohen on December 05, 2005

As a consequence of this past week's Adam Curry and Kennedy Assassination controversies, Wikipedia founder James Wales has implemented restrictions on the Wikipedia open-source article contribution model. Whereas previously anyone could create or contribute to an article, whether a registered member of Wikipedia or not, now only registered members of the Wikipedia community will be allowed to create new articles. Anyone visiting a Wikipedia article can still alter its contents. The article provoking the Kennedy assassinationlinks controversy was created by an unregistered individual.
