Gone are the days of MySpace, sort of. The current thing to ask is "are you on Facebook?" And hey, for those needing a quickie pick-up icebreaker, the phrase alone is groundbreaking. But do you think Facebook can really own your soul as is postulated in this post. I am not going to beg, I am just going to differ. What I see happening is a company looking for new ways to make money on the Internet, and I don't think they are zapping my karma or messing with my afterlife by doing so. What better way to make maybe a buck or two when you can gather as many people as possible in one "meeting space". The more the people, the more bucks. There you have it folks, the most basic business model there is.

Gurus all over are talking about it being the next Google now that it has surpassed MySpace in the trendy social networking department. Oh right, did you forget that Facebook was for social networking? And what is so wrong about that? Networking is how contacts are made, deals are developed, and bank accounts get lined. People don't have time for business cocktail parties and 3 hour lunches. Facebook is a pretty viable alternative. But as the author suggests, this does not warrant a FEAR of Facebook. I think the people that fear Facebook are quite possibly a little envious that they didn't think of it first. And it's too late to worry about the Big Brother phenomenon. Because the time to worry about that was before the Internet era, not during it. Taking Facebook out of the picture is not going to delete the notion that your every electronic action is leading a trail somewhere. Face it.
