Sweden's Minister for Sustainable Development declared earlier today that his country is determined to stop using oil by 2020, making Sweden the world's first country to do so. This comes in the wake of Iceland's five day-old announcement that they plan on ridding themselves of petroleum fuel by 2050. They have a list of ambiguous projects and undefined objectives planned, which will supposedly allow them to achieve this goal within a fifteen year timeframe. Some of these include:

1) Massive investment in green-tech and clean, alternative energy.

2) Implementing a congestion tax and excluding efficient vehicles from it.

3) Absolving fuels without CO2 from an emissions tax.

4) Increasing taxes on energy and CO2, while lowering other taxes.

5) Allocating research and development funds to municipalities for administering environment quality studies.
