Elliot Backhas a feature, "Is Blogspot really bad?" detailing the alarming increase of "spam blogs", which are primarily advertisements and appear to users who click on the random blogbutton of blog hosts such as Google-owned Bloggerlinks.com. Conducting his own experiment to provide an unscientific (but notable) statistic on the ratio of real blogs (diaries, columns, etc.) to spam blogs, he found that surfing through blogger.com using the random blog buttom produced a splog 28% of the time.
