The term "podcast" has been deemed the most significant new word of 2005 by the New Oxford American dictionary. Defined as "a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the internet for downloading to a personal audio player", the term was coined in 2004 but deemed too esoteric for inclusion until it gained widespread use this year.
