Plastic - Heal Thyself!
A team at the University of Illinois have come up with a polymer that is developed using nanotechnology that can literally fill in its own cracks and tears. And no, they haven't exactly called it robotic plastic yet but that is what it sounds like to me.

The plastic is virtually self-healing and can even repair itself multiple times. Wow, this is going to take on all new meaning with respect to children's toys. But you could also see this working very well for structures that require materials that undergo enormous stress. Researchers are suggesting aircraft carrierslinks will benefit from this. I am thinking that I would not want to fly in an aircraft made of this material. Would you?
