Nano-Sized Battery Will Power Artificial Retina

Filed in archive Medical Treatments by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 13, 2006

A team of researchers at the National Center for Design of Biomimetic Nanoconductors is developing a microscopic battery capable of being used in medical biotech applications. Once refined, the battery will power an untold number of devices that will be implanted into humanslinks for the purpose of assuaging pathological and other afflictions.

An artificial retina created by scientists at the Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California will be the first product designed for use with this new battery. Its inventors have already tested it on blind patients with positive results. A smaller power source will improve efficiency and give rise to expanded use of this treatment.
