Mobile Phone Software Displays Movie Tickets

Filed in archive Mobile Phone by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 20, 2006

Movie Box Office has debuted a technology that allows people to buy and receive movie tickets directly using their mobile phone. Once a ticket is bought using their proprietary software, the consumer is provided a link to a web site with a bar code graphiclinks identifying the movie and showing. Participating theaters will provide their ushers with bar code scanners to scan the cell phone screen.

The sales pitch is convenience; Movie Box Office contends the $1 extra they charge is a worthwhile expense because it allows e that allows people to skip congested lines at counters or ticket vending machines. To purchase a ticket using this method, you'll need a credit card, and an internet connected cell phone with a color display.

A pilot program is being conducted at one theater in Michigan. If successful, MBO plans to market their service to movie theater chains nationwide.
