PolyFuel, Inc. has developed a new fuel cell membrane for passive direct methanol fuel cells that is capable of supplying 33 percent more power density than previous films due to a 27 percent reduction in thickness. 45 microns thick, PolyFuel's membrane will puportedly help facilitate the adoption of methanol fuel cells as a next generation power source, as conventional batteries do not have the retentive electrical properties necessary to operate mobile devices. 4G phones by Samsung will require four times the energy as their current handsets. Methanol fuel cells can be replenished by refills or cartridge replacement, much like printer ink.
