Medical Breakthrough Could Reduce Cancer Treatment Costs By 90% In Five Years

A team of Berkley scientists have demonstrated a method of engineering yeast that contain a significantly higher percentage of isoprenoids than normal. Isoprenoids are a key compound links

in anti-cancer and malaria drugs, which are currently harvested from plant genes. The research team claims that this technology has the potential to reduce the cost of treating cancer and malaria by 90% or more within the next five years.
