Fox Introduces Pre-Airing VOD Service

Filed in archive Content Delivery , Digital Media (Video) by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 06, 2006

Fox has announced a new on-demand programming service that marks the first time a major television provider is making paid VOD access possible before an original episodelinks is broadcast. Content will be available for purchase 24-48 hours scheduled its airtime. Though the deal currently affects only DirecTV customers, a News Corp-owned sister company, the possibility exists for an expanded program involving additional cable providers. Only properties from the FX cable channel, like Nip/Tuck and The Shield, will be up for sale on a pre-airing basis. Hit shows from the Fox network, like new episodes of 24, can be bought for $1 after they've been shown for the first time.
