Device Will Create Unique Skin Profiles

Filed in archive Medical Treatments by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 18, 2006

BrighTex, a start-up biotech firm, has created a device that generates instantaneous and unique epidermal profiles. Dubbed Clarity Pro, it takes an image scan of a person's face whereupon a special software package analyzes these photographs to make conclusions about skin health. The machine currently measures UV contamination, dryness, thickness, bendability, bacteria, oil levels, and tanning patterns. Future versions will be able to predict whether someone is likely to develop skin cancer.

Scheduled to launch in February, Clarity Pro will retail for between $12,000 and $25,000 and will be initially marketed to cosmeticlinks physicians and spas. Upon establishing a skin profile, doctors will be able to specifically tailor the prescription of cosmecuticals and other treatment/maintenance products. BrighTex plans on developing a new product that can detect breast cancer with this technology.
