Chinese Government Announces Three More Eco-Cities In Development

Arup, a London-based consulting firm, has announced that their deal to aid the Chinese government in developing an "eco-citylinks" north of Shanghai on an island 75% the size of Manhattan will be expanded to include the development of three more eco-cities throughout the Chinese mainland. Though exact locations and explicit details about these eco-cities are yet to be made public, the original"eco-city" is scheduled to be completed by 2040 and a first phase of 50,000 will live in the city by the 2010 World's Fair in Shanghai. All four eco-cities are intended to be self-sustainable in energy and have transportation systems that produce no greenhouse gas emissions.
