China Building First Superconducting Fusion Power Generator
Filed in archive Green Tech by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 24, 2006

Unlike other facilities of this type, investment costs are expected to total $37 million USD, approximately 1/15 to 1/20 the price of the three similar machines already manufactured. The program, dubbed EAST (Experimental
advanced super conducting research) will contribute its findings to a consortium of scientists around the world. The goal of EAST is to develop a fusion power generator capable of withstanding temperatures above 100 million degrees Celsius and able to control deuterium-tritium reactions. Once such a power device is refined, it could theoretically provide an infinite amount of clean energy.
