Big Brother Is Watching Us

held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where the central theme ran around the notion that computers are taking over our lives. It is no surprise to me that anything that requires human efforts is currently being studied to see how a computer can do the same job, either as well or better. And then, of course, once THAT technology is discovered, another has to be developed to beat that one. The author in this post is using a meeting room example where computer sensors are tracking employee activity in a room. People didn't like that. It made them feel too Big Brotheresque and so they complained about privacy issues.
What came next? A new device of virtual walls was implemented to create virtual privacy. So, one technology serves one purpose, and another is developed to combat that purpose. Big business is spending millions of dollars to keep track of their employees. Who do you think is paying for that? That's right, the cost is being passed on to us, the consumer. And we pay for those fancy walls every time we purchase or use one of their products. Here's a cost-effective thought, do away with both of those devices and just let the folks sit in a room by themselves.
