The BBC's Open News Archive is a library of video footage from the past fifty years currently comprised of about 50 significant events. Clips can be downloaded for free and watched or integrated into personal mixes for non-profit sharing. For example, a history professor could edit BBC's Tianamen Square footage to use in the classroom if an upcoming lesson broached the subject. At the present, BBC's service is in a pilot (i.e., beta) stage and only people living in the United Kingdom can sign up to download their material. They have indicated it might be expanded as a subscription program for the rest of the world at a later time.
