Astronomers using the microlensing technique have found the most Earth-like extrasolar planet in existence. It's approximately five and a half times larger than Earth and believed to be compiled out of rocky materials. The planet orbits a red dwarf star about 28,000 light years away from Earth. Surface temperatures on "OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb" are -364 Fahrenheit.

Originally detected by OGLE on July 11 2005, (Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment) telescopes, this discovery was simultaneously confirmed multiple astronomy centers around the world. The finding was announced on January 26th, and involved researchers from 32 institutions.
