Apple's Upcoming Intel-Based Computers Can Run Windows

Filed in archive User Interface by Jonathan G. Cohen on January 11, 2006

Apple's new Intel-based computers will allow those who know a thing or two about using different operating systems on one machine to switch back and forth between Microsoft Windows and OSX from the same system. While Apple won't be offering computers with Windows as an optional pre-loaded OS, the company plans to put no limitations in its new product line that would prevent the software from being installed, its senior vice president of worldwide marketing commenting, "If there are people who love our hardware but are forcedlinks to put up with a Windows world, then that's OK."

A Microsoft representative expressed reciprocal glee, "Any new machines that are on the market that run Windows are great." Apple and Microsoft recently signed a five year deal that guarantees Microsoft will continue to develop software for Mac platform, including a new version of its Office business suite.
